Three-fourths of an inch (3/4") is the maximum distance permitted between the backside of the closed hoistway door at the elevator landing and the edge of the threshold at the floor landing. The hoist way door must reject a 4 inch sphere at all points on the gate for the ¾ x 4 rule and there is no more than 3 inches permitted between the backside of the closed hoistway door and the elevator car gate for the ¾ x 3 rule. This is commonly achieved by the use of door stop that is 1/2" or less on a recessed door.
Residential Elevators also offers a variety of hoistway door and car gate/door packages to provide you the best level of safety within the home elevator industry.
